Joint Police Station & Fire Hall Under Construction in Ward 15

A new joint police station and fire hall is being built in the area of Parkside Dr. and Highway 6. The City of Hamilton has made a significant financial allocation to the project, which includes a new collision reporting centre, and a #911 dispatch centre. The compound adds multiple new fire fighting vehicles to the community, while staffing twelve full-time firefighters, as well as forty police officers.

At a projected value of approximately $60 million, this project represents the single largest investment into Waterdown / Ward 15 since amalgamation with the City of Hamilton in 2001. Further, increasing the presence of police officers and fire fighters is long overdue in Ward 15. In practice, the resources of the new joint compound will considerably expand the capacity of both the Hamilton Fire Department and Hamilton Police Services to protect and serve the community.

Veteran Memorial Crosswalks installed near Waterdown Legion

It was an honour to introduce a motion at the City’s Public Works Committee to create and fund two Remembrance Day commemorative crosswalks. The project has been led by Bob Thomas and the Waterdown Legion. The new installations are directly in front of Branch 551. In addition, the Legion is the permanent home of the Waterdown Museum of Hope, curated by students from Waterdown High School, which documents the personal experiences of veterans. The veterans’ commemorative crosswalks were dedicated following the Legion’s annual Remembrance Day Ceremony.

Hamilton City Council Endorses Ontario Food Belt Motion

MPPs Mike Schreiner & Bobbi Ann Brady have jointly presented a Private Member Bill to protect Ontario farmlands through the creation of an ‘Ontario Foodbelt’. The bill includes a protection plan devised by farmers, agricultural experts, soil scientists, professional planners, and agricultural organizations. I was proud to receive unanimous support of my motion asking Council to endorse the bill. Through representatives at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, Hamilton will encourage the province to make it law. In addition, City will support and encourage the Ontario Farmland Trust, the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, the Christian Farmers, and the National Union of Farmers in their respective efforts to create an Ontario Foodbelt.

Dundas St. Bridge Repair

Construction is underway to make long overdue repairs to Grindstone Creek bridge. Through mid-2026, traffic will alternate directions with eastbound movement from 2am-2pm, with westbound movement from 2pm–2am, to accommodate for the typical traffic patterns of the community. The demolition and reconstruction of the bridge is only part of the scope of work. In addition, road and sidewalk reconstruction, as well as watermain and sanitary sewer upgrades are also included. If you are able, please continue to support the many local businesses in the area, who remain open during the construction.

Spotlight: Investment in Ward 15

  • $15,000 for the Flamborough Santa Claus Parade, which accounts for approximately 25% of its annual budget.

  • $7,000 for Eagle’s Nest to enhance youth mental health support services in Waterdown / Flamborough.

  • $250,000+ to Interval House & the Flamborough Women’s Resource Centre, providing outreach and support to victims of domestic and gender-based violence.
