It was an honour to introduce a motion at the City’s Public Works Committee to bring not one, by two Remembrance Day commemorative crosswalks to Waterdown. The motion passed unanimously.

The crosswalk project will be led by the Waterdown Legion, and the installations will be located at the intersection of White Oak Dr. and Hamilton St. N, directly in front of Legion Branch 551. The commemorative crosswalks will be in place prior to Remembrance Day 2025.

The Waterdown Legion is a centerpiece of the community. Obviously, the Legion is central to Remembrance Day ceremonies and many people will be familiar Legion as the host of the Waterdown Farmer’s Market, in partnership with the Waterdown BIA. In addition, the Legion also hosts the Waterdown Museum of Hope, which delivers captivating stories, meticulously researched by students, documenting the personal experiences of veterans. Further, the Waterdown Legion also coordinates the creation and display of Community Memorial Banners, honouring and memorializing local Veterans who died in service.

The forthcoming crosswalks will compliment these Legion initiatives, which affirm those who served defending democracy, ensuring Canada remains the ‘True North Strong and Free.’
