Intersection pedestrian signal coming to Avonsyde Blvd and Sipes Dr
In an effort to address pedestrian safety concerns at Avonsyde Boulevard and Sipes Drive, the City of Hamilton will soon install a temporary intersection pedestrian signal (IPS) to better support the community.
At this time, the engineering design work is complete and underground utility location identification is underway. Once the utility locations are finalized, installation of the IPS will proceed as quickly as possible. While an exact date is not currently available, the City anticipates the signal will be operational by mid-November, pending weather and construction variables.
A temporary IPS was selected to ensure the fastest possible installation to address the immediate safety concerns of this area. Nearly 40 residences are highly impacted by a lack of crosswalk across Avonsyde Blvd. To be clear, the IPS may in fact become permanent. It will remain in place indefinitely, or until such time that future traffic management planning makes the IPS at Sipes and Avonsyde redundant or unnecessary.
