The City of Hamilton is building a new Community Recreation Centre & Pool in Waterdown. Having already hosted multiple public info sessions and the first online survey to establish an initial vision, the City has now moved into a public consultation phase on actual design images.
Recently, City staff from the Recreation Division hosted an open house at Harry Howell Arena, at which they shared updated design concepts with residents. Below, you can view the information presented at the October 6 info session.

The City has already conducted several rounds of public consultation on rec centre design feature and amenities, collected through an online survey and multiple public meetings. Taking that feedback into account, the updated illustrations represent a well-established concept design, site plan, and facility layout. At the info session on October 6, staff collected additional feedback, which will be used to further refine the design, prior to finalizing the layout and seeking a partner to build the new centre. Thus far, the guiding vision behind the design features includes a facility that is inclusive, multi-use, accessible, and resilient. It will be anchored by an indoor pool and gymnasium. Further it will offer multiple spaces for programs, activities, and gatherings. As for the pool, Modern pool designs include multiple tanks with different water temperatures, universal change room availability, and barrier-free accessibility.
Soon, the City will launch yet another online feedback opportunity. Visit the Engage Hamilton page, where the broader community will have an opportunity to comment on the updated design and provide additional feedback online. Further, residents can share feedback to staff directly and/or sign up for ongoing communication via the contact information provided here.
